Abstract
1,083,291. Bearings. LITTON INDUSTRIES Inc. March 3, 1965, No. 9179/65. Heading F2A. [Also in Division G1] In an instrument comprising a pendulous mass pivotally supported by a pair of bearings defining a rotational axis for the pendulous mass, each bearing is caused to vibrate in a direction having a component at right-angles to the rotational axis in order to reduce the effect of static friction. As shown, the pendulum 19 of an accelerometer (see Division G1) is pivoted on a pair of pins 23 mounted on the tines of a tuning-fork type support 15 which is set in vibration by means of a pair of electromagnets 13, 17.
