Abstract

Pigment compositions resistant to flocculation in organic media comprise a pigment intimately incorporated with a minor quantity of a polymeric organic pigment derivative in which two or more pigment molecules are linked together made by reacting a halogenomethylated pigment with a primary amine or diamine. The compositions are made by milling the components in the presence of an inert grinding aid and optionally in the presence of an acid or by dissolving the polymeric pigment in acetic acid, suspending the pigment in the solution and basifying to precipitate the polymeric pigment. The pigment and polymeric pigment derivative may be of the same or different colour and/or dye series, and pigments and polymeric pigment derivatives of the phthalocyanine, quinacridone, isodibenzanthrone, bis-(6 - methylbenzthiazyl)azobenzene, benzidine yellow (tetrazotized benzidine coupled with acetoacetanilides) and chrome yellow (lead chromate) series are mentioned. The pigment compositions are incorporated into printing inks by milling with lithographic varnish or air-drying alkyd media.
