Abstract
1,082,884. Determining proportions in a liquid mixture by measuring conductivity. COMPANHIA UNIAO FABRIL S. A. R. L. April 5, 1966 [April 9, 1965], No. 15188/66. Heading G1N. In a process for measuring the amount of sulphuric acid and water in a mixture of sulphuric acid and acetic acid containing up to 5% water, the sample passes through a first conductivity cell 3, is then diluted in ratio 1:1 with water, and passes through a second conductivity cell 8. The conductivity in cell 3 depends on the amount of sulphuric acid and water in the sample whereas the conductivity in cell 8 depends mainly on the amount of sulphuric acid in the sample since the added water renders insignificant any changes in the initial water content of the sample. A control unit 11 responds to the output of cell 8 to control the flow rate of the sulphuric acid. The water content is determined by a calculator 12 and displayed on meter 13. Heat exchangers 1 and 7 ensure the conductivity measurements are made at the same constant temperature. A temperature compensation circuit may correct the measurements if the temperature cannot be maintained constant. Dosimetric pumps 4, 5 for diluting the sample with water are driven by a common motor 6.
