Abstract

108,257. Nosworthy, W. H., and Prescott, S. J. Nov. 17, 1916. Lighting fires.-A fire-lighting apparatus comprises a chamber containing cotton wool, slag wool, asbestos, &c, which is formed by conjoined upper and lower shells 1, 2 having between them an outwardlydirected restricted passage through which the vapour passes for combustion. In the form shown, flanges 3, 4 on the shells are spaced apart by knobs, flutes, or ribs on the upper one, which is held in position by the turned-over top of an air-passage 5. The flanges may be clamped in position. Prior to use, the apparatus is immersed in paraffin, and the device is started by a wick 9 supported by lugs 10 or by a wick led out from the packed chamber. Alternatively or additionally, a starting-wick may be located in the air passage. Also, a number of air passages may be provided. The device may be mounted beneath a grate on a support and be provided with one or more hoods as described in Specification 104,072. A wire handle 11, Fig. 4, bent as shown at 12, passes through holes in the flanges 3, 4 and may be used in either of the positions shown, or be folded over on the container to facilitate storage, transit etc.; also it may be telescopic or folding. The container may have a T- shaped hanger secured to it by a detachable clip.
