Abstract

The heating surfaces of rotating regenerative pre-heaters are cleaned by contacting with an aqueous solution of an acid e.g. a mineral acid, aminsulphonic acid or a hydroxypolycarboxylic acid. The solution may also contain orthophosphates, polymeric phosphates or complex forming compounds, and inhibitors e.g. mercaptobenzothiazole, diphenyl thiocarbamide, diorthotolyl thiocarbamide, dibenzl sulphonide, formaldehydeamine condensates or hydroxy piperidine. The liquid may be sprayed on to the heating surfaces at 3-20 atmospheres. The surfaces may be subsequently neutralized and passivated with an alkaline-reacting solution.
