Abstract
1,082,387. Electron beam focusing and deflectrin apparatus. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Dec. 4, 1964 [Jan. 2, 1964], No. 49479/64. Heading H1D. A dynamic electrostatic focusing and deflecting system, e.g. for a colour television projection tube of the light-valve type such as described in Specification 1,027,272, comprises two sets of deflection plates 26, 27 and a further, e.g. cylindrical, electrode 36 between the deflection plates and the target, e.g. a thermoplastic deformable medium, the system acting as a three element electrostatic lens and the set of deflection plates 26 nearer the gun acting as a predeflection system for compensating for the shift in focus due to the deflecting voltages on the further and main set of deflection plates 27. The predeflection system need not form one of the elements of the electrostatic lens, a cylindrical electrode between the two deflection systems being provided for this purpose. Each set of deflection plates comprises orthogonally arranged pairs of horizontal and vertical deflection plates.
