Abstract
1,082,309. Pneumatic conveyers. FOSECO INTERNATIONAL Ltd. Dec. 7, 1965 [Dec. 23, 1964], No. 52237/64. Heading B8A. Powdered material 9 in a sealed hopper 1 is discharged by a screw conveyer 11 into the flared end 4 of a discharge pipe 5 which is mounted in a gas duct 3. Air enters the hopper through a pipe 7 and a pressure-regulating valve 8 and is forced down the duct 3 into the discharge pipe 5 where it entrains the material discharged at the top of the conveyer 11. The pipe 5 may be connected with a lance located in a batch of molten metal and the air pressure may be controlled so that the pressure is high enough to overcome the metallostatic pressure of the molten metal but is not so high as to cause the molten metal to splutter out of its container.
