Abstract

Liquid fuel dispensing apparatus for use at a self-service filling station comprises a control centre provided with known means for receiving a bank note and checking its validity, means for selecting one of a plurality of pumps, and means operative upon acceptance of a valid bank note to make a metered quantity of fuel available at the selected pump. The pump selecting means comprises a series of push-buttons which are mechanically interlocked so that only one may be operated at a time. The apparatus provides means for delivery coins as change. A receipt is issued automatically and is printed with the date and the quantity of fuel bought. Means is provided so that the whole operation of the control centre is cut out whereby the pumps may be used conventionally. The bank note receiving means may be selectively cut out so that an operator may receive payment at the control centre. The system comprises an electrical control circuit including a relay (RL2B/2) actuated by a pump selector button and a timer motor energized by further relays (RLP/2, RL2E/2 and RL2C/4) if a note is accepted by the note receiver (not described). The timer motor operates contacts (2C2) and a relay (2F/3) to ensure that a pump motor is energized for a predetermined time, at the end of which time the note received is freed for another operation.
