Abstract

1458465 Fluid dispensing apparatus DRESSER INDUSTRIES Inc 20 Sept 1974 [20 Sept 1973 17 Jan 1974] 41127/74 Heading A4T A self-service dispensing apparatus for liquid or gaseous fuel comprises a series of dispensers 24 served by at least one storage tank, a display of volume and cash value of fluid dispensed at each dispenser a memory for storing digitally the volume and cash values, and a control console 10. The control console can be addressed to a selected dispenser to cause the stored information to be displayed thereat. The information is stored in a temporary memory and retrieved by using a numerical keyboard which identify the dispensers. The dispensers 24 have a manually operated switch 46 and a circuit responsive to operation of the switch to reset the memory. The service station with the dispensers is coupled by a telephone or radio link 16 with a central office so that up to date information can be obtained. The operator of the service station can call on any dispenser to display a gallon and cash value sale and also call up a display of the preceding sale for that dispenser by a recall key. The power supply 18 of the apparatus has a main supply 20 and a battery 12 for use if the power fails in order to protect the memory. The amount of dispensed fuel is measured by flow meters with apertured discs positioned between LED 68a, 68b and photo-transistors 69a, 69b. The pulses produced are shaped by a circuit, Fig. 9 (not shown), and supplied to a central processing unit 114, Fig. 4, to which the keyboard 26 and the memory 116 are connected. The level of fuel in the or each storage tank 25 is also sensed and fed to the processing unit 114 for retrieval when required. A flip-flop circuit 100, Fig. 3, has an "in use" input and its other input is from a "power on" signal or a "device select" signal accompanied by a "reset" signal. The output of the flip-flop is fed to a "ready" lamp 34 on the console. The apparatus has two modes of operation i.e. a "pump control" and "data entry" determined by a switch 28 on the console. The pump or pumps in the storage tanker are controlled by switches 87, Fig. 3, operated by a solenoid 85 when the switch 46 is closed.
