Abstract

1393062 Fuel dispensing apparatus OXY METAL FINISHING CORP 11 April 1973 [2 May 1972] 17495/73 Heading A4T Apparatus for delivering a liquid e.g. petrol comprises a reservoir 1, a pump 2, a flowmeter 8 that controls a display system 10 for indicating the volume of liquid delivered and the corresponding cash to be paid, a delivery nozzle 6 and a valve 3 for checking the delivery rate thereof by means of a manually actuated control device 5 in the nozzle wherein the flowmeter and/or display system are part of or enclosed in the delivery nozzle. The pump 2 draws fuel from the reservoir 1 and feeds it via the valve 3 and pipe 4 through the flowmeter 8; the flowmeter operates a detector or counter 9 which feeds a signal to the display system 10 which may comprise read-out dials 11, 12 or electronic or electro-mechanical read-out elements. The liquid flow-rate control device 5 comprises a trigger and controls, electrically, the opening of the electro-valve 3 dependent upon the pressure applied to the trigger. A knob 18 is provided in the nozzle for pre-setting the computing and display system 10 to a predetermined quantity of e.g. petrol, the valve being automatically closed after this quantity has been dispensed. A second computing and display system 21 may be remotely located from the petrol pump and electrical circuits controlled by a knob 22 are provided for altering the price indications of the dial 12. The various electrical devices in the nozzle can be energized by means of dry or rechargeable batteries. Electric cables 20, 23 between the nozzle and the remote display system 21 may be dispensed with, the signal being transmitted therebetween via a radio transmitter and receiver system.
