Abstract

1,081,915. Engine mountings. MARTIN HOIST and ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Oct. 28, 1965 [Oct. 28, 1964], No. 44023/64. Heading F1M. A mounting for an engine 10 which is required to impart via a chain and sprocket assembly a drive to a drum or other member displaced laterally with respect thereto, comprises a subframe or platform 14 on which the engine is actually mounted, a plurality of resilient buffer or shock absorbing devices 16 interposed between the sub-frame or platform and a base frame 15 or other rigid support and resilient buffer means 19 at least that side of the engine at which the drum or other member to be driven is or will be located, the resilient buffer means being located above the plane of the sub-frame or platform between a rigid upstanding member carried by the sub-frame or platform and a stationary abutment 17 carried by the base frame or other rigid support, the arrangement being such that the resilient buffer means will resist lateral tilting or displacement of the engine on its resilient mounting while allowing vibration thereof in the vertical sense. The resilient buffer or shock absorbing devices and the resilient buffer means may each comprise a block of rubber to each of two opposed faces of which a metal plate or the like is bonded. It may be feasible to employ coiled sponge or other appropriate shock absorbing devices. If desired an arrangement of posts or abutments and interposed buffer element may be disposed at the other corner of the sub-frame or platform 14 at the same side of the engine or alternatively at the diagonally opposite corner. The invention is particularly for engines such as may for example be employed for driving hoists or winches.
