Abstract

1, 081, 916. Engine mountings. MARTIN HOIST and ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Oct. 28, 1965 [Oct. 28, 1964], No. 44024/64. Heading F1M. A mounting for an engine which is required to drive via chain and sprocket transmission means 12, 13 a winch drum or other member located at a higher level than that of the drive shaft 11 of such engine, comprises a sub-frame or platform 14 on which the engine 10 is fixedly located and which is extended to project beyond the drive output end of the engine, resilient buffer or shock absorbing means 16 interposed between the sub-frame or platform and an underlying base frame or support 15 in the apparatus for which the engine is installed and additional resilient buffer or shock absorbing means 17 located between the extended portion of the sub-frame or platform and overlying stationary abutment means 18 the arrangement being such that while transmission of engine vibrations to the base frame or support will be substantially eliminated any upward or rearward tilting movement of the engine as a result of an upward pull exerted by the drive transmitting means will be substantially prevented by the additional resilient buffer or shock absorbing means. The buffer or shock absorbing means may each comprise a block of rubber or the like to each of two opposed faces of which a metal plate or the like is bonded. Instead of employing rubber blocks it may be feasible to employ coiled springs or other appropriate shock absorbing devices. The invention relates particularly to mountings for internal combustion engines such as may for example be employed in driving hoists or winches.
