Abstract

1,081,804. Load handling pallets. J. M. BEHAN. May 20, 1964 [May 25, 1963], No. 20975/63. Headings B8H and B8P. [Also in Division B7] A box pallet comprises a base 1, a cover 5 that slides over the base and has channels 6 engaging projections 3 on the base, and an inflatable bag 8 of polyethylene or nylon that holds the contents secure and raises the cover into sealing engagement with the base. A door 12 has inflatable sealing strips around its edges. Inlet and vent valves 9, 10 respectively are provided. A sling may be provided to facilitate handling. The base has longitudinal or transverse runners 2 and the cover has wheels 7 that are raised clear from the ground when the bag is inflated. A fluid may be carried by pumping it into the bag through valve 9 and a vacuum pump with a knuckle-jointed suction arm is then provided for emptying. Due to natural buoyance the containers may be towed or propelled singly or collectively if joined by tow ropes.
