Abstract

1,081,562. Extrusion dies. COMPAGNIE DES ATELIERS ET FORGES DE LA LOIRE. June 30, 1965 [June 30, 1964], No. 27718/65. Headings B5A and B5B. An extended slot extrusion die for the production of films and sheets comprises a cylindrical core having grooving such that thermoplastic melt from a screw extruder follows the flow paths shown, viz. bifurcation of stream 1 into streams 2 and 2<SP>1</SP>, stream 2 into streams 3 and 4, stream 2<SP>1</SP> into streams 3<SP>1</SP> and 4<SP>1</SP> and subsequent bifurcations of each stream until streams 9, 10 ... 16 and streams 9<SP>1</SP>, 10<SP>1</SP>. . . 16<SP>1</SP> emerge and coalesce along a common generator of the cylindrical core. The path length of each stream from inlet to outlet is the same. The flow of melt from the core is adjusted by radial movement of a bar (29), Fig. 3 (not shown), and lips (33, 34) are also adjustable. Heating elements such as (35, 36) may be provided. The extruder may comprise two screws (A, A<SP>1</SP>), Fig. 2 (not shown), which feed vertically diverging channels (23, 23<SP>1</SP>).
