Abstract

1,081,528. Centrifugal switches. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Aug. 17, 1965, No. 35320/65. Heading H2B. When the rotor 19 of a motor 10 exceeds a predetermined speed, a centrifugal weight assembly 22 carried on the rotor for rotation therewith acts against spring biasing means to displace a portion 27 of a pivotally supported switch actuator 25 such that a portion 29 of the actuator 25, external of the motor casing member 12 supporting rotor shaft 21, causes actuation of a switch 23 mounted externally on casing member 12 via its spring-biased actuating element 24. Springs (40), (41) (Figs. 3, 5, not shown) bias the weight members (37), (38), to hold a push member 39 in an outward position on shaft 21 against portion 27 of switch actuator 25 (Fig. 2, not shown). As the motor 10 starts to rotate, the centrifugal force exerted by weight members (37), (38) overcomes the force of springs (40), (41), and the members (37), (38) displace push member 39 inwardly and allow actuating element 24 to push switch actuator 25 back to its Fig. 1 position. A spring (32) (Fig. 4, not shown) holds portion 29 of actuator 25 against the bearing housing 33 to prevent rattling of the actuator 25.
