Abstract
1,081,419. Disc brakes. REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT. Oct. 5, 1964 [Oct. 8, 1963], No. 40586/64. Heading F2E. A spot-type vehicle disc brake comprises a floating calliper housing 1 movable relative to fixed vehicle part in the direction of disc axis and an anti-noise device 7 which is connected at one end to the calliper housing and at the other end to said fixed vehicle part, said device counteracting rocking motion of the calliper housing about an axis x, y parallel to the disc sides without materially preventing said floating movement in the direction of the disc axis. The housing is attached to a support bracket 2 by U-shaped links 3 pivoted at 5 and arranged to bear against the ends of the housing through deformable anti-noise elements 4. The bracket is connected to a wheel hub. The anti-noise device 7 comprises a spring steel plate connected at one end to two points 8 and 9 to the housing and at the other end by means of a stud 10 of the bracket 2 to the wheel hub. The fixing point 8 is a hand brake adjustment screw. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the lower end of the plate is slidably-mounted on a smooth-ended stud by a silent-block friction bush. This arrangement automatically compensates for wear on a friction pad located on the disc side remote from the actuating hydraulic cylinder in the housing but is unnecessary when actuating cylinders are on both sides of the disc. In another embodiment, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown), the plate 7 is replaced by a piston/ cylinder damper (18) connected to anchoring points on the housing and hub by clevis pin connections.
