Abstract

A lubricating grease with a clear melting point and a reversible character comprises a lubricating oil thickened with a soap of a montan acid having at least 28 carbon atoms per molecule, the grease containing 0.045% to 0.1% by weight of free montan acid. Montan acid means an acid derived from montan wax. The soap may be made in situ in the grease. The base oil may be a mineral oil.
