Abstract

A process for the production of an embossed plastics foam material comprising forming a layer on a backing material of a fluid composition comprising a polymer and a blowing agent dispersed in a plasticiser, gelling the layer at a temperature below that at which the blowing agent is decomposed, embossing the gelled layer to form a desired pattern thereon and then heating the gelled layer to a temperature above the decomposition point of the blowing agent to decompose the latter and expand the composition, and maintaining the raised temperature for sufficient time to complete the fusion of the polymer dispersion. Examples of backing material and polymer are given.
