Abstract

1,080,329. Sleeping bags. SLUMBERLAND GROUP Ltd. Nov. 23, 1965 [Sept. 25, 1964], No. 39087/64. Headings A4G, A4M and A4S. A sleeping bag, underquilt for laying on top of a mattress, pillow &c., is formed from a compound fabric comprising a layer of down, forming the surface lain upon and enclosed between fabric coverings, secured to at least one outer strengthening layer of acrylic or other textile fibres, heat-insulating pockets of still air being formed between the layers by quilting of one or each of the layers. Quilting lines in adjacent layers are staggered. In a two-layer fabric the textile fibre layer may also be enclosed between coverings, stitched to an upper down layer, and secured thereto by spaced, parallel strips of fabric having opposite edges stitched to the lower covering of the down layer and to the upper covering of the textile fibre layer respectively. In a modification, the textile fibres are bonded together and the upper covering thereof omitted, the layers being secured together by stitching which passes through the fibre layer and the lower coverings of both layers. The sleeping bag is formed as a tube of the compound fabric, closed at one end and provided with ventilating louvres or a sliding clasp fastener, or open at both ends and closable by draw strings.
