A device for the dispersion of pigments in liquid binding agents comprises a verticallyarranged container 1, a rotatable agitator shaft 2 having discs 4 and a downwardly-tapering conical filter 5 above the uppermost disc, arranged so that an annular gap remains free between the shaft and the conical filter. The gap is arranged to be two to three times wider than the diameter of the largest grinding bodies, e.g. spherical material such as sand, glass, quartz or metal, used.
