Abstract

1,079,992. Circuits employing bi-stable magnetic elements. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Jan. 20, 1965 [Feb. 4, 1964], No. 4682/64. Heading H3B. [Also in Division H2] A supervisory circuit comprising a plurality of laddics connected in cascade with the output winding of each laddie (except the last) connected to a control winding of the next laddic in the sequence has a damping winding arranged on limbs carrying a control winding connected to the output winding of the preceding laddie. In Fig. 2 the output winding A of a first laddie is connected through a transistor amplifier, Fig. 3 (not shown), to a control winding B on rung 6 of a second laddic. Each laddie has its own input and reset windings which are energized alternately. When control signals from the system being protected are present on all the control windings 1, 2, 3 of the first laddie output pulses are fed to the winding B on the second laddie. The damping winding or short-circuited winding SS on the same rung as winding B delays the changes in this rung which would occur due to current pulses applied to the input winding of the second laddie and the current pulses through winding B tends to restore any changes. There will therefore be an output from the output winding of the second laddie when input pulses are applied to its input winding. If one of the control signals 1 to 3 fail due to a fault in the equipment being protected so that no output pulses are applied to winding B then output signals from the second laddie will cease after a few cycles due to the reversal of flux in the rung on which winding B is wound.
