Abstract

Novel compounds of formula <FORM:1079592/C2/1> where R is H or C1-C6 alkyl, X and Y are each hydrogen, methyl or ethyl and R1 is -NR2R3 where R2 and R3 are each hydrogen, alkyl of 1 to 6 carbon atoms or allyl, and acid addition salts thereof, are prepared by reduction of the corresponding carboxamide or a bicyclo-[2,2,2]-octyl-(1) alkyl ketone oxime or by reaction of acetonitrile with an a ,a -dialkylbicyclo-(2,2,2)-octane-1-methanol, in each case optionally followed by alkylation of the amine group and/or salt formation. 4 - Alkylbicyclo - [2,2,2] - octane - 1 - carboxamides are prepared by reaction of ammonia or an appropriate amine with the corresponding acid chloride which is itself prepared from the carboxylic acid. The above oximes are prepared in the usual manner from the bicyclo-[2,2,2]-octyl-(1)-alkyl ketone which is itself prepared from an organometallic compound and the 1-carboxylic acid chloride. a ,a - Dimethylbicyclo - [2,2,2] - octane - 1-methanol is prepared by action of methylmagnesium bromide on the 1-carboxylic acid chloride. Penicillin salts of the above novel compounds are disclosed. Pharmaceutical compositions, feed concentrates and foodstuffs comprise an above novel compound and a carrier therefor.
