Abstract

A germinating cabinet 1 used, e.g. for ascertaining optimum malting conditions, comprises sprinklers 17 for trickling cooling water down the outsides of the walls of the seed-containing germinating boxes 15, 16, situated above pressure chamber 7, the interior of which is in communication with the delivery side 8 of blower 9. A trough 18 collects the water which water passes via a siphon trap into pressure chamber 7 and to discharge 22. In use, blower 9 sucks air from the atmosphere via valve 6 into suction chamber 29 and blows it into pressure chamber 7 where it is cooled and humidified by the water from trough <PICT:1079573/C6-C7/1> 18, and passed through humidifying filter 23 maintained moistened by means 24. The air is passed out of the holes 11, 12 in pressure chamber 7, through porous bottoms 13, 14 and into boxes 15, 16. Air may be passed directly into chamber 28 via valve 26 from pressure chamber 7. The air in chamber 28 may be discharged to the atmosphere via valve 5 or to suction chamber 29 via valve 32, for reuse.
