Abstract
1,078,820. Resistors. MATSUSHITA ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIAL CO. Ltd. Aug. 4, 1964 [Sept. 6, 1963], No. 31320/64. Heading H1S. A method of manufacturing a film resistor comprises grinding a ceramic base to close dimensional tolerances, subjecting the base to high temperature heat treatment (e.g. 1100‹ C. for 30 minutes) so as to make the base surface microscopically smooth, and then applying a resistive film by known methods. If the base is of rod form to which terminal end caps are fitted, the ends of the rod are bevelled by ballmilling to facilitate the application of the caps and the rod is heat-treated to give a microscopically smooth finish to the bevels. The smooth finish serves to stabilize the resistor with respect to its hours of operation. The resistive film may consist of SnO 2 with Sb as an impurity.
