Abstract

1,160,347. Mass spectrometers. LEYBOLDHEBAEUS VERWALTUNG G.m.b.H. 15 Sept., 1967 [7 Oct., 1966], No. 42254/67. Heading H1D. The electrodes of an omegatron mass spectrometer are provided with heating means operable during the measuring process, such heating serving to drive off adsorbed gas so that the results obtained are more consistent. Preferably the heating means is a heating resistance which may have bi-filar windings and may also serve as a resistance thermometer in a control system whereby the electrode is automatically held at a desired temperature, e.g. between 100‹ and 200‹ C., preferably 150‹ C. The heating means may be used to bake the electrodes at a temperature between 400‹ and 800‹ C. before a measurement is made.
