Abstract
1,078,733. Track propulsion systems. DEMAG A.G. Aug. 19, 1964 [Jan. 28, 1964], No. 33943/64. Heading B7L. [Also in Division F2] In a device for accelerating rail-mounted travelling tubs, a friction wheel 5 is mounted on a stationary driving spindle 8 of a motor 1 with associated gearing 2 disposed adjacent the track and the friction wheel 5 contacts the tubs frictionally from the side or from below the radius of the friction wheel being greater than the distance between the longitudinal axis of the driving spindle and that face of the tub which serves as a running track for the friction wheel, the friction wheel also being provided with a concentric hole 5c and adapted to be gripped between at least two disc members 6, 7 forming a friction coupling, so mounted on the driving spindle that they have neither radial nor rotary motion relatively to it, at least one of the disc members (7) having axial motion in relation to the driving spindle 8 and being capable of being pressed with constant or vari. able force continuously or periodically against the friction wheel. The friction wheel is provided with a pneumatic or solid rubber tyre or a tyre made of plastics material. The means for pressing the disc members 6, 7 into contact with the disc portion 5a of the friction wheel 5 may consist of a rubber ring member 9 which bears axially against the disc member 7 (Fig. 1) or alternatively by means of an electromagnet 13 which is energized so that contact pressure is applied between the disc member 7 and the disc portion 5a of the friction wheel 5 (Fig. 2, not shown). In the embodiment described in Fig. 2 (not shown), a heat insulating layer 12 is inserted between the friction facing 11 and the rim 5b of the friction wheel 5 and a cover 5d is provided to protect the friction wheel operating parts. A viscous substance may be introduced between the faces of the coupling.
