Abstract
1,078,674. Degassing liquids by pressure reduction. EDUARD AHLBORN A.G. Aug. 6, 1964, No. 31947/64. Heading B1M. In a process for de-gassing a liquid, e.g. milk, a mixture of liquid and foam is expanded along an elongated flow path to cause partial evaporation of the liquid and is simultaneously cooled along the flow path to cause condensation of the vapour. As shown, a stream K of liquid is pre-heated by passage through plate heat exchangers 5, 6, is further pre-heated by an external medium in heat exchanger 8, and is expanded through a throttle valve 1 into a chamber 2 in which a liquid-vapour foam is formed. The foam is then expanded through throttle valve 3 and passed through heat exchangers 5, 6 in which expansion and partial evaporation continues and condensation is effected by counter-flow heat exchange with the incoming liquid. The foam leaving heat exchanger 6 is further cooled by an external medium K 1 in heat exchanger 6a and then passes to a separator 7 from which the liquid is withdrawn by a pump 4, a further pump being provided for withdrawing air or other gas from the separator.
