Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of formula R11CONRCHXR1 and a process for making them by reacting RN=CHR1 with R11COX, wherein R is o-tert. alkyl-o1-substituted aryl, R1 is H or hydrocarbyl, optionally halogen- or hydroxyl-substituted, R11 is C1- 18 hydrocarbyl, optionally halogen-substituted, and X is a halogen. Reactants exemplified are N-methylene-2-tert.-butyl-6-methyl (or ethyl) aniline, N-crotonylidene-2-tert.-butyl-6-methylaniline, BrCH2COBr, BrCH2COCl and ClCH2 COCl.ALSO:Plant growth is controlled by application to the plants or to the soil of a compound of formula <FORM:1078071/A5-A6/1> wherein R1 is tertiary alkyl, R2 is alkyl or alkoxy, R3 is halogen, alkyl or alkoxy, R4 is H or hydrocarbyl, optionally halogen-or hydroxyl-substituted, R5 is C1-18 hydrocarbyl, optionally halogen-substituted, n is 0-3 and X1 is halogen. The compounds may be formulated as, e.g. dusts or emulsifiable concentrates; besides the usual adjuvants, NH4NO3, urea, superphosphate, compost, manure, humus and sand may be present, as well as other unspecified fertilisers and pesticides.
