An excavator bucket ejector mechanism comprises a plate disposed within and pivotal relative to the bucket, in turn pivoted on an arm of an excavator, an abutment, preferably a curved arm, secured to the back of the plate. a bell crank lever mounted on the excavator arm and spring biassed into the path of the abutment. The abutment engages the lever to prevent pivotal movement of the plate as the bucket is swung from a load-carrying to a load-dumping position so that the contents of the bucket are positively discharged until the bucket clears the bell crank lever from the path of the abutment so that on reversal of the swinging moment of the bucket material entering the bucket will push the plate back through the bucket.
