Abstract

1,077,100. Selective signalling. MAATSCHAPPIJ VAN BERKEL'S PATENT N.V. Oct. 2, 1964 [Oct. 2, 1963], No. 40231/64. Heading G4H. A shaft-position control system for moving a lens in a weighing machine to a keyed position comprises coarse and fine loops each being of the type in which a member having conductive and non-conductive regions is moved relative to a set of contacts until a selected contact enters a " dead " zone. The coarse loop includes a helix 3, Fig. 1, which is arranged to be conductive except for a central, half-revolution long, " dead " region. The particular halfrevolution that the shaft 9 is to be driven to is determined by selecting one of 15 contacts 1 and by causing the shaft to be driven until the selected contact enters the " dead " zone. The fine loop includes a disc, Fig. 4, having conductive 30, 31 and non-conductive 23 regions and brushes 0-11, see also Fig. 2, the shaft being driven until a selected brush enters the dead region, 23 or 24, between the two conductive segments. To ensure that the fine displacement is correctly added to the coarse displacement the polarities of the voltages applied to the conductive segments 30, 31, are determined by whether an odd or an even numbered halfrevolution has been selected.
