Abstract
1,076,821. Reverberation systems. MINISTER OF TECHNOLOGY. Aug. 4, 1964 [Jan. 24, 1964], No. 3277/64. Addition to 974,701. Heading H4R. [Also in Division G5] In a reverberation system such as described in Specification 974,701, each microphoneamplifier-loud-speaker unit includes a variable gain amplifier and has associated with it a filter tuned to the resonant mode frequency controlled by such unit. The filter may be an electrical filter for tuning the amplifier, a mechanical filter such as an electrically driven tuning fork or tuned vibrating reed, but is preferably a Helmholtz resonator housing the microphone. The loud-speaker may be tuned by a tube. Several microphones, each within a respective Helmholtz resonator tuned to a different frequency, may feed a single amplifier and loudspeaker, the loud-speaker having connected to it a multiple tube array, tne tubes being tuned to the respective resonant frequencies. The microphone and loud-speaker of a unit are located in the vicinity of the resonant mode frequency which they control and a phase-shift network ensures that sound energy fed into the auditorium by the loud-speaker is in phase with the sound energy of the mode at that location.
