Abstract

[Also in Division G3] A tensioning control of an endless conveyer comprises a valve 22 controlling an hydraulic motor 21 which drives a winch 16 to wind or unwind a rope 17 which passes around pulleys 14, 18, 15, 19 and 20 and is connected to a weight 9. The conveyer belt passes round a roller 6 in a carrier 7 and the belt tension acts on a spring-loaded lever 24 carrying the pulley 18. Thus variations in the tension of the belt causes the rope to rotate the lever 24 to actuate the valve 22, an indicator 28 being provided. The weight 9 is below the normal datum setting of the tension and when the system first starts up, the winch tends to pay out rope to reduce the tension existing in the belt and this can be taken up by the weight 9. If the weight 9 is below its upper level in the cage when the system stops, the weight moves to its top level to compensate for the tension.
