Abstract

An apparatus for reducing the amount of a sample of granular material such as fertilizers comprises a housing 1 having one or more units 2, 21, each unit consisting of a compartmented divider 4, 4<SP>1</SP> and a funnel 8, 81, some of the compartments 5a, 5a<SP>1</SP> having openings 6, 4 leading into the lower funnel and other compartments 5b, 5b<SP>1</SP> having openings 7, 7<SP>1</SP> leading to the outside of the housing. In use a large amount of sample of granular material is fed from a hopper 9 into the upper end of the housing, some of the material falling into the compartments 5b and so out of the openings 7. The rest of the material falls into the compartments 5a and then through the openings 6 into the lower divider where the material is divided in a similar way and then falls through the funnel 8<SP>1</SP> into a container 10. The housing may be made from a transparent or translucent material.
