Abstract

1,075,142. Covers for sports grounds. JOHN EDGINGTON & CO. Ltd. July 30, 1965 [July 31, 1964], No. 30329/64, Heading A6D. [Also in Division B6] Apparatus for facilitating the laying and removal of a sports ground cover 7, comprises an inflatable roller 6 straddled by wheeled support members 1 which each mount a reversible motor 10 having a pulley 9 on its output shaft. The pulleys 9 each cooperate with a respective cable 8 arranged to be wound with the cover and having its free end secured to the ground. The tension in the cables 8, when the pulleys 9 are driven, results in the roller being moved to either pay out or take in the cover, the roller in turn pushing the members 1 in the appropriate direction. Modifield forms of support 1 may be arranged adjacent to, rather than straddling, the roller. The cover preferably comprises a plastics sheet provided with inflatable ribs on its underside.
