Abstract

107,460. Albertis, C. de. Aug. 10, 1916. Regulating; valves.-The explosion cylinders 1, 2 of a four-stroke-cycle engine are arranged one on each side of a central cylinder 7 in which products of combustion are first expanded, simultaneously with the expansion in the cylinders 1 or 2, and then compressed and forced into the explosion cylinders to raise the compression of the new charge therein to the ignition temperature. The cylinder 7 serves the two explosion cylinders 1, 2 alternately. Communication between explosion cylinders and the central cylinder is controlled by oscillating valves 9, 9<1> actuated by cams, not shown, adjustable for timing the moment at which the cylinders communicate. The invention is applicable also to engines working on a two-stroke cycle.
