Abstract
1,073,470. Wind tunnels; aircraft engine intakes. POWER JETS (RESAERCH & DEVELOPMENT) Ltd. Dec. 3, 1965 [Dec. 4, 1964], No. 49443/64. Heading B7G. [Also in Divisions F1 and G3] A fluid duct has a flexible wall 16 pivotally mounted on arms 17 pivoted at 18 to a base 19, and jacks 28, 30 are arranged to apply tension to the wall to vary its profile. In operation, the downstream jack 28 is set to a predetermined position and the upstream jack 30 applies a predetermined load. The upstream end of the wall is slidable between fixed parts 32, 33 of the duct. The arms may alternatively be leafspring cantilevered instead of pivoted at 18. The duct may form part of a wind tunnel, two opposed walls being flexible as described above, and the other two walls being parallel; or of an hydrodynamic testing tunnel; or of an aircraft jet propulsion engine intake or exhaust duct.
