1,073,093. Liquid treating yarns. E. I. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO. March 17, 1965, No. 11309/65. Heading D1L. Apparatus for applying liquid finish to a yarn 18 comprises a body 10 which is preferably in two parts 12, 14 and has channels 24, 26, 28 therein which convey the liquid finish via an opening 13 to an open groove 16 along which the yarn passes to be treated. The yarn passes along the groove for a distance sufficient to allow complete absorption of the liquid before the yarn leaves the body 10. The outlet channel 28 is of smaller diameter than the remaining channels in the system. The outlet orifice 28 may be formed in portion 14 in which case this portion may be exchangable to allow outlet orifices of different size to be used. Hot or unstable finishes may be applied and units may be mounted in series to apply successive finishes. The finish is passed by a metering pump from a reservoir and via a valve to the channel 24.
