Abstract
A composition comprising 40 to 90 parts by weight of a polyolefine resin, 5 to 50 parts by weight of a water-insoluble polyamide resin having recurring amide groups as integral parts of the polymer chain and 2 to 25 parts by weight of a copolymer of an alpha-olefine with an alpha-beta unsaturated monocarboxylic acid wherein said carboxyl groups of said monocarboxylic acids are partially neutralized by sodium ions, is obtained by kneading a mixture of molten polyolefine resin, water-insoluble polyamide and metal ion containing polymer at an elevated temperature until the mixture is homogeneous and thereafter reducing the temperature to ambient condition. The polyolefine resin is preferably polyethylene, polypropylene, a copolymer thereof or a mixture thereof. The polyamide resin is preferably polyhexamethylene sebacamide, polyhexamethylene adipamide or poly-epsilon-caprolactam. The copolymer is preferably a copolymer of ethylene with a minor amount of acrylic or methacrylic acid which has been 38% neutralized. The polymers in pellet form may be kneaded in an extruder at up to 450 DEG F. The composition may be formed in fibres, films and laminated films and blow-moulded to form plastic bottles. The extrusion process may take place before the mass is cooled to ambient temperatures.
