Abstract

1,072,606. Conveyers. UNION STEEL PRODUCTS CO. Feb. 9, 1966, No. 5749/66. Heading B8A. Bread cooling apparatus comprises a delivery conveyer 21, two banks of coolers 33, 34, a collecting and. spacing conveyer 26, a transfer mechanism 30 and a loading conveyer 31. The coolers discharge on to unloaders 37, 39. The apparatus is powered by electric motors (M) and is electrically and pneumatically controlled, Fig. 17 (not shown). Conveyers 26, 31 and transfer mechanism 30.-The conveyer 26 comprises a first section (27) having chains (78) between which extend rotatable bars (80), Fig. 6 (not shown), the chains (78) being driven at the same speed as the delivery conveyer (21). The second section (28) of the conveyer 26 is driven intermittently and has transverse rollers (405) carried by chains (403). The speed of this section (28) is less thin that of section (27) so that batches B of loaves catch up with one another on the section (28) to form a continuous single column of loaves. A spacing section (28A), consisting of a wire link belt, is driven faster than the conveyer section (28) to space adjacent loaves. The loaves then pass to the transfer mechanism 30 which includes a conveyer 89 having driven rollers 91 and four vertically reciprocable rollers (105A- 105D), Fig. 7 (not shown). The latter, when raised, form stops separating one loaf from another, but when lowered permit a pusher 92 of the mechanism 30 to push a batch of loaves on to the loading conveyer 31 (also Fig. 11, not shown). The rollers (105) are controlled by limit switches (117A, 117B, 117C) actuated by the loaves, and a limit switch (103) engaged by the leading loaf initiates discharge of the loaves from the conveyer 89, Fig. 8 (not shown). The conveyer 31 comprises chains (148) carrying flight bars (142) which push the loaves along a slide plate (144) extending over the receiving reach of the first bank of the cooling conveyer, Fig. 11 (not shown). The device for the conveyer 31 includes a motor (281) and an alternator (50) driven by the cooler conveyer motor 41, so that the conveyer 31 and the cooling conveyer operate at the same speed. Cooling conveyer.-Wire pallets 32 are connected to a single chain (68), Fig. 4 (not shown), and are loaded at the bottom of the first bank (33) of the conveyer. The loaded pallets advance upwardly in a spiral to a crossover (35), pass to the second conveyer bank (34) and descend spirally to the unloaders 37 and 39. In Figs. 4, 15 (not shown) the chain (68) is guided by tracks (53), (56) having nylon covers (67). The nylon covers support the projecting edges of special links (69), (69A) which carry a bar (185) for pivotally supporting a pallet (32). The outer ends of the pallet slide on nylon guides (63), (73). To maintain the conveyer chain(68) taut, sprockets (49) are yieldably supported on plates (197) to which pneumatic cylinders (203) are connected. The cylinders are all supplied with the same air pressure through conduits (205). Where all the loaves are to be discharged at one or more of the unloaders 37, it is unnecessary to provide for vertical tilting of the pallets and a modified pallet-chain connection may be used, Figs. 12-14 (not shown). First pallet unloader 37 (also Fig. 11A, not shown).-A clutch-brake (168-170) which controls the drive to the unloader is caused to operate by a pin (174) on the pallet support links 69 as a pallet is advanced to register with a slicer feed conveyer (38). The loaves are swept sideways off the pallet by pusher bars (165) on chains (162). Selective unloading at unloaders may be obtained by varying the length or position of the actuating pins on different pallets to actuate different unloaders. Second pallet unloader 39 (also Figs. 15, 16, not shown).-The pin (174) of selected links (69) may be omitted or made shorter so as not to actuate the first unloader 37. Loaves of these selected pallets will be advanced to the unloader 39 where a rail guide (176) is terminated and a guide (179) having a sharp drop (180) allows the pallet to tilt to discharge its loaves on to a second slicer feed conveyer 177. Fig. 17 (not shown) illustrates schematically the electrical drives and controls of the apparatus, together with portions of the pneumatic controls.
