Abstract
1,072,487. Colour television. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd'. Feb. 5, 1965 [Nov. 7, 1963], No. 43922/63. Addition to 1,051,065. Heading H4F. [Also in Division G2] A. multi-tube, colour television camera includes an optical system which cam be selectively switched to conform to Claim. 1 of the parent. Specification,. whereby the depth of focus of the image formed on the luminance tube is greater than that formed on the colour tube or tubes, or to conform to an optical system, such that the light applied to the different pick-up tubes emanates from the same effective aperture. In a first. arrangement, Fig. 2 (not shown), the incoming light,.following the main lens, is split between the luminance and colour tubes by means of a member having a first wholly transparent region with a small central reflective spot which determines the luminance aperture. The member is constructed in accordance with the invention.to;be slidable whereby the first region may be removed from the light path and replaced by a second semi-transparent region whereby the camera functions with a conventional optical system with the aperture for both luminance and colour tubes determined by the main lens. In a second arrangement, Fig. 3 (not shown), the member is arranged to be rotatable and has three sectors, two are transparent and have reflective spots of different size, so as to permit operation in accordance with the parent Specification, with a choice of luminance aperture, whilst the third is semi-transparent to permit conventional operation. Changes in signal amplitude which come about as a consequence of the switching of the optical system may be compensated by caus:ng movement of the optical element to switch gain-control arrangements in the signal amplifiers or to insert neutral density filters in the optical paths.
