Anti-friction air-bearing pads for moving heavy masses according to the parent Specification have a communicating passage 12, Fig. 3, between the bearing gap and the resilient aircushion chamber 10 beneath the load-supporting pad 5 so that the pressure in the cushion is controlled by the load. An air leakage passage 13 is provided between the main air supply chamber 9 and the passage 12 and a spring- loaded check-valve 16 is also provided in the passage 12 to effect higher pressures in the cushion chamber 10. In modifications the leakage passage 13 and valve . 16 may be omitted.
