Abstract

1,071,647. Hand cutting tools; scrapers. H. M. LIGHTBURN. Oct. 29, 1964, No. 44194/64. Heading B4B. A cutting tool 11 is provided with a guide 12 to enable display trays 45, 48 to be cut from a carton 13, the guide comprising a tubular socket 30 frictionally engaging a tubular sheath 18 of the tool, a shank 32 and members each including a leg 34 and a flange 35. The sheath 18 encircles the major portion of a strip 16 which frictionally engages a single-edge razor blade 23 having a reinforced back edge 24. The strip 16 has a cut-out 25 for the back edge 24 and a stop 20 which exposes a corner 22 of the blade. The abutting edges 19 of the sheath 18 are bowed inwardly to frictionally grip the strip 16. The strip 16 has exposed ends 28 which provide a stop and serve for gripping the back edge of the blade when the latter is to be used as a scraper after removal of the guide. The guide is assembled over the blade-mounting end of the sheath until inturned stop tabs 37 engage the forward end of the sheath. At least one pair of nesting spring detents may be provided on one or both sides of the sheath and surrounding socket.
