Abstract

[Also in Division G3] A fluid-actuated valve consists of a piston V forming two chambers 1, 2, the piston controlling the flow from an input I to an exhaust E; the input I is also connected to the exhaust via the chamber 2 behind the piston and two restrictions R1 R2 either one or both of which may be adjustable. The chamber 2, which is connected intermediate the restrictions, contains a variable loading-spring. Restriction R2 is of high resistance compared to the other restriction R1. The restrictions may be disposed in the piston V. The input I may be connected to a positive displacement pump and lead to a positive displacement motor, a third restriction is inserted intermediate the first restriction and the input, and in the connection between the pump and motor so that the pressure difference thereacross is a function of flow; the valve maintains a given motor speed despite changes in load or the speed may be varied by adjusting the third restriction.
