Abstract

1,071,164. Printing plates. GEVAERTPHOTO-PRODUCTION N.V. April 30, 1964 [May 2, 1963], No. 3580/67. Divided out of 1,071,163. Heading B6C. [Also in Division G2] Lithographic printing plates are improved by lacquering the plate with a two-phase lacquer comprising an aqueous dispersion of a solution of an alkyd resin and a phenolformaldehyde resin in an organic solvent. The organic phase may also contain a drying oil, a pigment or a dye whilst the aqueous phase may contain a compound which improves the hydrophilic properties (e.g. phospheric acid or phosphates) or the hydrophobic properties (e.g. surface-active agents or mercapto compounds) of the plate, a thickening agent, or a bactericide. The printing plate is preferably produced by the silver salt diffusion transfer process such as that disclosed in Specification 913,591.
