Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide titled compsn. which excels in film hardness and coatability, containing a specified linear copolymer which is made water-soluble or water-dispersible.
CONSTITUTION: (A) 10W80wt% of an addition product having a MW of 350W 3,000 obtd. by reacting (a) a diepoxy cpd. having two epoxy gp. per molecule or an epoxy cpd. having one epoxy gp. and one hydroxyl gp. per molecule with (b) a semi-drying or drying oil fatty acid at a temp. of 60W220°C for 0.5W4hr, (B) 20W40wt% of a hydroxycarboxylic acid having two hydroxyl gp. and one carboxyl gp. per molecule, and (C) 3W50wt% of a diisocyanate cpd., are copolymerized at a temp. of 20W150°C in a solvent contg. no hydroxyl gp. to obtain a linear copolymer having a number-average MW of 1,000W50,000. Then the carboxyl gp. of the copolymer are converted to a salt by neutralization in order to make the copolymer water-soluble or water-dispersible. If necessary, a pigment, a drier, etc. are blended with the copolymer to obtain an aq. coating compsn.
