Abstract
An activated phosphor material is prepared by forming a solution in demineralized water of zinc and/or cadmium chloride, the solution also containing ions of an activator material which is a compound of copper, silver or manganese, and adding to the solution an organic thio compound which yields hydrogen sulphide in a hydrolysis reaction when the pH of the solution is raised to 10 or 11, thereby co-precipitating zinc and/or cadmium sulphide and the activator metal sulphide. The thio compound may be thiourea or thioacetamide.ALSO:An activated phosphor material is prepared by forming a solution in demineralized water of zinc and/or cadmium chloride and containing ions of an activator material which is a compound of copper, silver or manganese, and adding thereto an organic thio compound which yields H2S in a hydrolysis reaction when the pH of the solution is raised to 10 or 11, to co-precipitate zinc and/or cadmium sulphide and the activator metal sulphide.
