Abstract
1,069,539. Stereophonic systems; loudspeaker enclosures. CLAIRTONE SOUND CORPORATION Ltd. Oct. 7, 1964 [July 23, 1964], No. 40833/64. Headings H4J and H4R. In a stereophonic system a horizontal boom 24 (Fig. 1) carries at its centre a turntable enclosure 12 and at its ends loudspeaker enclosures 14. The arrangement substantially prevents vibration feedback from the loudspeaker enclosures 14 to the turntable enclosure 12. The loudspeaker enclosures 14 are mounted to permit adjustment of the direction of sound radiation and to this end are each secured to a rotatable bearing member (80<SP>1</SP>), Fig. 10 (not shown). The boom 24 is mounted on an upstanding column 16 which is hollow, having opposite vertical slots (22), Figs. 4, 6, 7 (not shown), in which the boom 24 fits. A cylindrical collar (26) is slidably disposed in the end opening of the column 16 and seats against the boom 24. Spaced notches (32) on the boom 24 engage with the bottom edges (34) of the slots (22) for seating the boom 24 on the column 16. The collar (26) has welded thereto a mounting plate (28) for the turntable enclosure 12. The enclosure 12 is also supported by a pair of brackets 50 bolted to its underside. The weight of the turntable enclosure 12 holds the boom 24 in position. Wiring from the enclosure 12 passes through aligned apertures (56 etc.) in the boom 24 and mounting plate (28) to a channel (58) in the underside of the boom 24 and is then directed to each of the enclosures 14. Loudspeaker enclosures.-Each loudspeaker enclosure includes a bottom shell half (96<SP>1</SP>), Fig. 10 (not shown), having a circular lip (138) which accommodates a conical speaker baffle (104<SP>1</SP>) in a sliding force fit. Two perforated top shell halves (144, 146) having their perforations out of alignment complete the shell. Alternatively, there may be only one upper perforated shell half (122) secured by a connecting ring to the bottom shell half (96), (Fig. 8, not shown). The conical loudspeaker baffle is then secured through a cushion gasket to a further mounting ring on the bottom shell half. Preferably the interior is provided with a relatively hard acoustical material (148) backed with a lining of softer-acoustical material (150). Rotation of each enclosure may be restricted to just under one 360-degree traverse by a stop pin (128), Fig. 13 (not shown).
