1,069,477. Making radiators; brazing. L'ALUMINIUM FRANCAIS, and COMPAGNIE GENERALE DU DURALUMIN ET DU CUIVRE. April 5, 1965 [April 8, 1964; Feb. 26, 1965], No. 14361/65. Headings B3A and B3R. A radiator comprises a number of hollow elements, each formed by a pair of roll bonded sheets, the elements being sealed at 17, brazed together such that the chambers 11 and 12 of adjacent elements are in contact, and then being formed with passages 8 and 9 (Fig. 2, not shown), through the chambers. Inserts 18 may be interposed between adjacent elements. Each element is formed by roll bonding two sheets, one of which has been coated with stop weld material, and then inflating the sheets between opposed flat plates to form the chambers 11 and 12, and ducts 13 and 15, using an inflating channel 17. The elements may be coated with flux and heated in a furnace, or dipped into a heated flux bath. The passages 8 and 9 are formed by a boring bit having an air suction conduit, or by a laser beam. After sealing, a small aperture, temporary nozzle, or porous insert may be formed in the elements, in order to allow air or the inflation fluid to escape when heated during the brazing, The elements are formed by Cu, Zn, Al, Mg. Fe, or their alloys.
