Abstract

1,069,154. Edge-runner mills; mixing appliances; stirrers. NATIONAL ENGINEERING CO. OF CANADA Ltd. July 3, 1964 [April 14, 1964], No. 27531/64. Headings B1C and B2A. Each of the mulling-wheels 38 of an edgerunner mill 10 includes cleats 44 on its outer side-face 46 which opposes the side wall 14 of the crib or tank 12, the cleats being positioned radially outwardly from the axis of the wheel spindle 36 so as to engage, lift and aerate material in the crib outwardly of the wheel when it rotates. As described, the cleats 44 are mounted circumferentially about the axes of the spindles 36 and spaced inwardly from the mulling surfaces 42 of the wheels on their annular frusto-conical side faces 46, so as to be divergent to the axes of the spindles 36, with their outer ends close to the side wall 14 of the crib, and to a wear plate 16 on the bottom of the crib. Lumps of material close to the peripheral corner of the crib are thus broken up by the cleats and moved inwardly toward the mulling wheels. The cleats are screwed into threaded holes in the faces 46 of the wheels, and may be of round or rectangular cross section. Similar cleats 56 may be secured to the inner side faces 54. Outer and inner curved scrapers 30, 32 are secured to support arms 26, 28 secured to the rotatable mixing head 20 which drives the mulling wheels.
