Abstract
1,069,111. Evaporators; chemical reactors; fractionating columns. J. M. MALEK. Dec. 3, 1963 [Dec. 4, 1962; Jan. 14, 1963], No. 965/64. Headings BIB and B1X. [Also in Division F4] Apparatus for the evaporation of liquids or for carrying out chemical reactions with granular material in a fluidized bed, comprises (see Fig. 2) a base section 21, a heat-exchange section 22, a dispersion chamber 23 containing trays of metallic fabric, a separation chamber 24 wherein liquid or granular material is separated from gas or vapour, and a conduit 25 for circulating the liquid or granular solid to the base section 21. The material-to-betreated is introduced through pipes 31 or 35. The liquid or granular solid product is withdrawn through pipe 30. Gas or vapour flows from separator 24 into cyclone 36 and then into compressor 37; and some of the compressed gas or vapour is introduced into section 21 below perforated tray 26. Another portion of the compressed gas or vapour is conducted into the shell of heat exchanger 22 as heating medium. The outer surfaces of tubes 27 are provided with flanges over which any condensate of the heating medium flows in films, thereby increasing heat transfer. Graphite may be applied to the inner walls of the apparatus. Excess gas or vapour is discharged via valve(s) 39. Chamber 23 contains a vibration-generator 81. The apparatus may be used as a boiler for a distillation column, as in Fig. 11, where reference 75 indicates the heat-exchanger, and the distillation column 79 is connected to the separation chamber 77.
